About Our Community

Chimney Rock, a natural rock formation, pierces the sky at a height of 2280 feet. An elevator encased in the mountain stands ready to propel you to its peak. Once on top, the valley opens up to the widest expanse of pure nature that you've ever seen. Charlotte lies to the east, Asheville to the west - with nothing but majestic mountains and graceful countryside in between. It's so quiet. For a moment, you forget where you come from or what time it is and just take it all in. Nestled at the base of the rock are the quaint shops and winding roads of picturesque Chimney Rock Village. Stroll the scenic Rocky Broad Riverwalk and relax at Riverside Park in the shade with a picnic. Take a dip in Lake Lure and play on the beach. Then relax during a guided sunset tour of the lake and hear about the filming of blockbuster movies such as "Dirty Dancing", "The Last of the Mohicans" and "Firestarter".

Rutherford County visitors and residents enjoy a more equable climate than neighboring regions of comparable altitude and latitude. This outstanding characteristic called the "isothermal belt" is because of the county's protected location within the region. Located where the rolling piedmont hills stretch to a region containing the highest elevations in early and late frost seasons. Gorgeous fall foliage colors are enjoyed into November with spring arriving noticeable earlier than most areas.
