Sunbury Community Hospital, a 121-bed acute care facility, is located less than one hour north of the state capital of Harrisburg.  The population of Sunbury is 17,000 while the hospital has a primary service population of about 40,000, and secondary service population of 94,500.  Sunbury Community Hospital offers patients the latest technology as well as providing the community with life-saving and life-enhancing services.  

Sunbury and the surrounding communities have a solid foundation of business and agriculture and boast a wide range of community activities and services as well as numerous historical sites, educational opportunities and religious experiences.  The Greater Susquehanna Valley is rich in recreation as the area is a hotbed for high school and collegiate athletics.  It's close proximity to Harrisburg, Baltimore and the rolling hills of the Amish Country give the residents the opportunity to experience rural living with all the amenities of the big city a short drive away.  (New York City, Philadelphia and Washington DC are all within 200 miles driving distance.)

The goal of the Sunbury Riverfront Park Project is to create aesthetically pleasing riverfront improvements that combine flood protection with quality park and recreation services and facilities that benefit the diverse recreational interests of its residents, and provides access to the Susquehanna River and Lake Augusta, while serving as a catalyst for economic development. Sunbury has many exciting parks and other recreational areas for you and your family to enjoy.  Public facilities and activities include: baseball fields, Cameron Park, community pool, Fort Discovery, ice skating rink, Keithans Bluebird Park, Keller Street Playground, Kiwanis Playground, Merle Phillips Park, Oppenheimer Pleasure Grounds, Rice Playgrounds, a skate park and tennis courts. 

SCHOOLS
There are 7 universities/colleges with more than 2,000 students within easy driving distance.  In addition to providing excellent opportunities for post-high school education, these institutions provide a network of cultural programs unique in the area as well as access to excellent library facilities. The Shikellamy School District is an accomplished public school system; in addition, there are three private schools in Sunbury including St. Monica School (Prek – 8), St. Louis De Montfort Academy (7-12) and Sunbury Christian Academy (K-12).
