THE HOSPITAL: Russell Medical Center ("RMC") is recognized as one of the premier healthcare facilities of its size in the state of Alabama. RMC is a not-for-profit, 81 bed acute care hospital serving seven counties with a service area population of 65K+. With cutting-edge technology and approx. 80 physicians on staff, patients are treated in specialties ranging from primary care to radiology, cardiology, oncology and many more. Notable imaging services include 64-slice CT, in-house PET scanner, and two MRIs (open and closed). The Cancer Center at RMC is a state-of-the-art treatment center providing radiation therapy, including Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT). A 20,000 sq.ft. outpatient rehabilitation facility offers a vast array of medical and physical rehab services, including aquatics. Also RMC operates an accredited 4-bed sleep center.
THE COMMUNITY: Alexander City, located on Lake Martin with 750 miles of shoreline, is unlike most cities with a population of 14,000+. The community is progressive with a low crime rate, excellent schools, plenty of recreational opportunities, and an affordable cost of living. Lake Martin provides endless recreational opportunities including boating, fishing, camping, golf and much more. With its wildlife and hunting preserves, Alexander City is a sportsman's paradise. Wind Creek State Park has over 600 campsites and a public beach. The city's 200+ acre recreation complex offers soccer and softball fields, a horse riding arena, playgrounds, gymnasium, and picnic areas.
The Lake Martin area has gained national exposure as one of the top retirement spots in the nation. Centered in a growing business triangle formed by Atlanta, Birmingham and Montgomery, Alexander City provides the charm of small town life with easy access to metropolitan areas.
EDUCATION: The Alexander City School System consists of one senior high school, one middle school and three elementary schools. The system was the first in the state to have all schools designated as demonstration sites for the nationally recognized Alabama Reading Initiative. In 2005, the system was the first city school system in the state and nation to be awarded District Accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) with annual recognition as a Quality District. Beginning with the 2007-2008 school year, an Engineering Academy was implemented at the high school with Auburn University's College of Engineering to pair high school courses of AP biology, AP calculus and physics through which joint projects are completed by students from the high school and the University. The Alexander City Schools Education Foundation recently completed the campaign for $1 million to be used to make ALL core academic classrooms equipped with the most current and applicable technology to expand the learning opportunity for ALL students to the world stage.
