Washington County Health System, Inc., which is the parent corporation of Washington County Hospital, Antietam Health Services, Inc., and the Antietam Healthcare Foundation; employs more than 3200 people, operates the only hospital in the county and is the largest healthcare provider in the region.
Washington County Hospital is a 271-bed acute care, private, non-profit medical center serving the tri-state region, including Western Maryland, Southern Pennsylvania, and Eastern West Virginia. Designated a Level III Trauma Center, the hospital is served by more than 300 physicians, who represent more than 30 specialties. Washington County Hospital has continually received accreditation by JCAHO and has been recognized as a Top 100 Hospital and a Most Wired Hospital several times.
There are currently three centers of excellence within the hospital. One for Trauma, Joint Replacement and Cancer. The Stroke Center, while managed by local neurologists, uses telemedicine technology to link with University of Pittsburg Medical Center to assure instant access to a neurologist. The Bariatric Surgery program will soon meet the criteria for an additional center of excellence. Our Nursing Division is working hard to achieve Magnet status and are well on their journey to excellence.
A new/replacement, state of the art, 297 bed, 500,000 sq ft in-patient facility is scheduled to open in 2011. It will be co-located with Robinwood Medical Center, a 373,000 square foot medical mall which includes physician practices, imaging suites, laboratory suites, an urgent care center, an ambulatory surgery center, cancer center, rehabilitation suites, pharmacy and many other amenities.
Antietam Health Services, Inc. operates a number of business enterprises related to outpatient healthcare. These include six pharmacies, comprehensive lab service, home medical equipment, 12 physician practices, a corporate health/rehab business, outpatient surgery, diagnostic imaging, and a childcare center with capacity for 200 children. AHS also provides practice management services for private practices through a contractual relationship.
Private practices, a very important component in our healthcare network here, represent most specialties and subspecialties, and ensure our patients have access to most care they need in their own community. We continue to expand on specialties and sub-specialties.
