Avera Dell Rapids Medical Clinic
Purchased from private physicians in 1994, Avera Dell Rapids Medical Clinic is a vital link in the primary care network of Avera McKennan Hospital located in Sioux Falls, SD. Three family practice physicians are currently in group practice. Valerie Larson, M.D. is a graduate of University of Iowa College of Medicine and joined the Avera Dell Rapids Medical Clinic in August 2001. Matt Herber, MD joined the group upon in September 2002 and is a graduate of Creighton University Medical School. Joe Prasek, MD joined the group in July 2003 and is a graduate of USD. The call schedule will be 1 in 4 with the addition of another physician.
Avera Dells Area Health Center is a 29 bed facility providing both inpatient and outpatient services. Included are Home Health, outpatient consultation and surgery, Emergency Room services, Lab and X-ray and a variety of other services. The DRMC physicians share OB services with an OBGYN group in Sioux Falls with the deliveries being performed at Avera McKennan Hospital. Numerous specialists from Sioux Falls provide outreach clinics in Dell Rapids such as Orthopedics, Obstetrics, Cardiology, Podiatry and Ophthalmology and General Surgery.
Odd Fellows Retirement Home and Terrace Manor Nursing Home provide over 100 beds for the long-term care needs of the community. Each facility provides skilled nursing services and restorative care. Odd Fellows is owned by the Health Center and Terrace Manor is privately held.
Orchard Hills is a recently completed 48 unit assisted and congregate living center developed jointly by the Health Center and Sioux Valley Hospital.
Education: Dell Rapids has excellent schools with a K-12 parochial school as well as a K-12 public school system. Both school systems have recently completed, or are in the process of completing, major renovations or additions. Several colleges and technical schools are available in Sioux Falls and South Dakota State University is located just 35 miles north in Brookings.
Recreation: Dell Rapids offers a variety of recreational activities including golf, tennis, swimming, softball and basketball leagues, youth sports, fishing areas, and picnic/camping areas. Worldclass waterfowl and pheasant hunting are available within an hour's drive. Deer hunting is available throughout the state with other big game opportunities in the Black Hills.
