Heartland Regional Medical Center opened December 22, 2002 replacing the former Marion Memorial Hospital. This new facility is three times the size of the old facility and is the first new hospital built in southern Illinois in over 40 years. Heartland Regional Medical Center is a 92-bed full-service, tertiary health care facility. The facility has 68 medical and surgical beds, a 12-bed ICU, and 17 obstetrics beds, which includes five LDR's. In addition, the facility has a 26-bed same-day surgery unit, and a 17-room ER that includes eight acute care rooms, three fast-track rooms, and a four-bed chest pain center. The facility has five surgical suites, plus two endoscopy rooms and one special procedure room. Expanded tertiary services include open-heart surgery, angioplasty, stent implantation, atherectomy, neurosurgery, and level II nursery in OB. Open-heart surgery and related procedures began in the Spring 2003.
