Description of the Chickasaw Nation:
The Chickasaw Nation has 15 divisions and the Health System is one of those divisions with over 800 employees. The Chickasaw Nation has over 10,000 total employees with concerns in 42 states and 2 territories. We are not a reservation-based system. Our geographic location is where we establish our businesses and health facilities. American Indians from all 500+ federally recognized tribes and Alaska natives can use our direct services and all eligible patients who live in our 13 county service area qualify for contract health programs. We also have special tribal programs for Chickasaw citizens financed by our legislators.
Facility Description:
The Chickasaw Nation Medical Center, a new hospital facility, is slated to open during the first quarter of 2010. This 370,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility will have 72 beds, 33 dental chairs and house new MRI and CT Scanning technology.
The Chickasaw Nation Health System is a tribal program consisting of one hospital in Ada and four satellite health clinics located in Ardmore, Durant, Purcell and Tishomingo, Oklahoma. In Ada our health system facilities include a med-surge hospital, outpatient physical therapy, drug and alcohol treatment center, office of environmental health and the wellness program facilities which include the Family Life Center available at no charge to all employees and their families. All satellite clinics are within one hour drive of the hospital and refer to specialists in Ada when needed. All of our facilities are JCAHO-accredited; each clinic is surveyed as a part of the "system."
The health system has allopathic and osteopathic physicians and an optometry clinic staffed with clinical residency-trained optometrists. We have an award-winning Diabetes Program housed in a new Diabetes Center, an audiology department that provides services and hearing aids to our patients and dental services that include general dentistry, oral surgery, pedodonitcs, and prosthedontics. We work closely with the Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center and participate in grant projects and research projects such as the Today Program for Childhood Diabetes. We have all ancillary services normally within a hospital. Our pharmacists are all PharmD grads and serve as part of the healthcare team working closely to assist our physicians.
