West Virginia University Hospitals-East (WVUH-East) is a not for profit healthcare delivery system for West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle, the fastest growing part of the state. The system was created when two community hospitals, City Hospital in Martinsburg and Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, merged. WVU Hospitals - East is affiliated with West Virginia University Hospitals in Morgantown, WV.
WVU Hospitals - East, City Hospital in Martinsburg, WV is a 260 licensed bed facility with a 24-hour Emergency Department and 47,000 ED visits annually. A new Emergency Department is currently under construciton. The ED has a Level III Trauma Center designation. A cardiac cath lab was opened in June 2009. The hospital's radiology services are completely digital (PACS) including a 64-Slice CT Scanner and SPECT. City Hospital has a 12-bed Critical Care Unit (New 20 bed unit under construction), Obstetrics department with more than 1,000 births annually, inpatient Pediatric Unit, and Inpatient/Outpatient Oncology Services, with clinical trials.
WVU Hospitals - East has a collaborative relationship with the Eastern Division of WVU School of Medicine to train physicians and other healthcare providers. The Eastern Division of WVU currently offers a family medicine residency program, a geriatrics fellowship program, and a PharmD program. They also offer 3rd and 4th year medical school options for students — enabling area physicians desirable teaching opportunities.
