Volunteer Medical Center in Martin, Tennessee is seeking a board certified general surgeon to either establish their own practice OR join one other in a well-established 5 year old practice.  With a general surgeon leaving the community, this is an ideal opportunity to capture an established patient base.  Ideal candidate would commence practice August 2009.

Volunteer Medical Center is offering a competitive recruitment package that would consist of an excellent salary along with overhead expenses for the first year in either a cash collections guarantee scenario or direct hospital employment.  We may also offer CME, relocation, marketing, sign on or commencement bonus, medical education debt repayment and/or monthly financial stipend throughout training.

Volunteer Community Hospital is a 100-bed facility with more than 300 employees.

  • Specialties represented by medical staff at the facility include Anesthesiology, Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Family Practice, Gastroenterology, Gynecology, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Obstetrics, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Pathology, Pediatrics, Pulmonology, Radiology, Surgery and Urology.

THE COMMUNITY
The community of Martin was named for local landowner William Martin who donated a large tract of land for the right-of-way use by the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad.

  • The City of Martin operates an impressive Park and Recreational Complex.
  • The Complex offers various sports activities including baseball, softball, soccer and other sports, and leagues are available for all ages.

EDUCATION
The city of Martin operates a primary school (K-2), an elementary school (3-5) , a middle school(6-8), and a high school (9-12), serving approximately 2,000 students.

  • The Martin public schools are part of the larger Weakley County School System which serves the surrounding communities of Dresden, Gleason, Greenfield, Sharon, and Palmersville. In all, the school system serves approximately 5,000 students in twelve schools.
  • The Weakley County School System is governed by a ten-member school board and all schools are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

  • Fall stays later, extending warm days and crisp nights, all with a backdrop of the colorful changing of the leaves.
  • Winters are mild and relatively short with little or no snow.
  • Precipitation comes mostly as rainfall, but an unexpected cold snap could allow someone to awaken to an unexpected blanket of nighttime snowfall.
  • With an abundance of lakes and rivers and natural areas, Tennessee is the perfect home for outdoor enthusiasts.
  • There are three major lakes within easy driving distance of Weakly County so water sports, fishing and hunting are popular forms of recreation in the area.
