The LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, LA seeks a Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. The new Chair will provide leadership to the Department with the development and implementation of a dynamic vision for its future, while also playing the essential role with the Dean and other Department Chairs in the ongoing evaluation and success of the School
This individual will be the academic and clinical Chair of the Department which includes 24 direct reports, and a total complement of 15 residents. The Chair reports to the Dean of the LSU School of Medicine.
The Chair will join LSU at a particularly exciting time in the School of Medicine's history. The institution has recently appointed a new Chancellor and Dean, Robert A Barish, MD, MBA. A planning process is underway to make major investments in faculty expansion and facility improvement. These improvements will advance patient care, research and education.
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery has diverse clinical settings including a comprehensive University Hospital in Shreveport, a neighboring Shrine's Hospital for Children and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The University Hospital serves as a regional trauma center for North Louisiana, East Texas and South Arkansas.
The successful candidate must have proven experience as a leader who can inspire faculty and staff to work together to develop future leaders in the Department and the specialty of Orthopaedics. It is also important that the candidate possess strong management skills with an ability to grow revenues and meet budgets, as well as excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of constituents both internally and externally.
Candidates must be faculty member of Orthapaedics at an LCME accredited medical school and be board certified. The candidate should possess a national reputation built upon a distinguished record of achievement in research, teaching and clinical care with national stature.
