The San Diego Medical Center is a licensed 343-bed hospital with a staff of more than 6,000 who support the nearly 600 full-time physicians respresenting virtually all major specialties and subspecialties. The medical center includes a 54-bed Emergency Department providing Level II Trauma care.

Kaiser Permanente facilities in the San Diego service area include 19 medical office buildings located throughout the county. Outpatient surgery centers, located in nearby El Cajon to the east and Otay Mesa to the south, each feature three operating suites.

The San Diego Medical Center is the only hospital in San Diego to receive the "Consumer Choice" Award from the National Research Corporation. The Pacific Business Group on Health has awarded Kaiser Permanente three blue ribbons for outstanding health care. In San Diego, approximately 94 percent of SCPMG physicians are board certified.

The continuing education programs in San Diego are accredited by both the American Medical Association and California Medical Association. The strong internal education program at Kaiser Permanente San Diego is enhanced by a close association with the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), including residency affiliations in General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Obstetrics/Gynecology, and Gastroenterology. Many of our physicians hold teaching and clinical appointments at UCSD. In addition, there is collaboration in clinical research with the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and other national research programs.
