The Mental Health Care Service Line director will assist in planning and development of our long-term strategic initiative to create a 'Mental Health Center of Excellence.This individual will be responsible for oversight, direction, and development of outpatient, inpatient, and tele-mental health services at the MedicalCenter and its Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) and joint program development with the USC School of Medicine. The successful candidate will qualify for a faculty appointment at University of South Carolina commensurate with training and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Citizenship.   Citizen of the United States. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
For MD or DO:
Education.   Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
(1)  Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.
(2)  Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
(3)  Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
Licensure and Registration.   Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
For PhD candidates:  (Psychologist)
Education: 
(1)  Have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.
 AND
(2) Have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that has been accredited by APA. 
Experience: At least 1 year of experience as a professional psychologist equivalent to the next lower grade level. Experience is only creditable if it is post-doctoral degree experience as a professional psychologist directly related to the duties to be performed.
Licensure:  Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.
For Nursing Candidates:
Education: 
(1) Have a Master's degree in Nursing or related field with BSN. Graduate of a school of professional by the appropriate State agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
Experience Nurse IV - Approximately 3-4 years in leadership role characterized by substantial and continuous responsibility and accountability for population groups or integrated programs that cross service and/or discipline lines and influence organizational mission and health care. AND Appropriate basic or advanced certification desired.
Applicant's successful nursing practice and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the salary of the applicant selected.
Licensure:   Current, full, active and unrestricted licensure as a registered professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the U.S. or the District of Columbia.
For Social Worker candidates: 
Education: Have a master's degree in social work (MSW) from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work.
Creditable Experience
Knowledge of Current Professional Social Work Practices. To be creditable, the experience must have required the use of knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics associated with current professional social work practice.The experience or education must be post-MSW degree. Experience and education satisfying this requirement must be active professional practice, which is paid/non-paid employment as a professional social worker, as defined by the appropriate state licensing board.
Quality of Experience. Experience is only creditable if it is obtained following graduation with a master's degree in social work and if it includes work as a professional social worker directly related to the position to be filled. Qualifying experience must also be at a level comparable to social work experience at the next lower level.
The advanced practice or Senior Social Worker will make independent professional decisions and recommendations for agency action; the consequences to the veteran of these decisions and actions may be quite serious. Work involves intensive social work services requiring the exercise of mature professional judgment and the flexible use of a wide range of complex social work practice skills not typically required in routine social work interventions. The advanced practice or senior social worker has mastered a range of specialized interventions and provides consultation to colleagues, renders professional opinions based on experience and expertise, develops new models of psychosocial assessment or intervention, and incorporates complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment.The advanced practice or Senior Social Worker utilizes outcome evaluations to further treatment and designs system changes based on empirical findings.

Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center (Dorn VA) is a 216 bed facility, which includes primary care, specialty care, mental health, acute medical, surgical, psychiatric, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics and extended care.  Healthcare was provided to over 61,802 patients during fiscal year 2008.  There were 673,841 outpatient visits and a total of 5,010 inpatient treated in fiscal year 2008.  Community Based Outpatient Clinics are located in Anderson, Greenville, Florence, Orangeburg, Spartanburg, Sumter and Rock Hill.  Administrative Support is provided for the Florence National Cemetery in Florence, SC and Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC; and the VA Regional Office, also located in Columbia.
