The Physical Therapist in this position provides treatment to patients at the VA Medical Center. You will evaluate and assesses patients, as assigned, to determine the treatment course to be followed. You will perform tests and measurements of muscles, nerves, range-motion, posture, strength, and ambulation, circulatory and respiratory status using various mechanical and electrical means. You will interpret results of test and measurement of the patient's condition for use in preparing the treatment plan, modifying treatment, and evaluating results of treatment. You will determine the need for adaptive equipment and devices and initiates prosthetic requests; demonstrates knowledge of assistive devices, coordinating provision through ongoing liaison with patient, family, physician, occupational therapist, Kinesiotherapist and social worker. The Physical Therapist performs stimulation of the peripheral and central nervous systems as a noninvasive means of therapy for the control of chronic pain. The Physical Therapist plans with patient(s) and family/significant others a treatment regimen that includes measurable goals and discharge plans. Discharge planning will include instruction to patient/family in home program dealing with exercise, transfers, ambulation, skin care, and safety precautions. You attend regularly scheduled ward rounds and is an active sole physical therapist on a multidisciplinary team, contributing information for overall goals of patients. The Physical Therapist is responsible for documentation of evaluation, goals, patient/family education, progress, change in treatment or patient condition in medical records as required. The Physical Therapist effectively communicates orally to other staff members when immediate information is necessary. The Physical Therapist provides clinical training for physical therapy assistant student and physical therapy students. You work within guidelines as provided by affiliating university, plans various experiences for students that are relevant to enhancing their knowledge and skills. You will provide in-service to staff on various topics relating to patient care or safety factors. You must be capable of unusual motivational techniques to obtain participation of patients with complex physical/psychiatric diagnoses. The work is performed in the Physical Therapy clinic with outpatients and inpatients NOTE 1: Relocation expenses have been authorized for these positions. NOTE 2: A recruitment/relocation incentive may be offered to highly qualified applicant(s). NOTE 3: Applicants who meet required criteria may be able to apply for partial student loan reimbursement under the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), subject to available funding. NOTE 4: Selected applicants may qualify for credit towards annual leave accrual based on prior work experience or military service experience. SALARY RANGE: 64,403.00 - 79,262.00 USD /year Recruitment incentive for highly qualified individuals up to 25% of salary
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: | Basic Requirements: (A) US Citizenship. (B) EDUCATION: A baccalaureate degree in physical therapy or an equivalent certificate in physical therapy from an accredited college or university and completion of a physical therapy clinical practice program. Both the education and clinical practice program must have been approved by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education and have been completed at an accredited college or university. (C) EXPERIENCE: Completion of 1 year of experience at the GS-10 level of Federal service which demonstrates knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics that are directly related to the duties of the position to be filled. These include: 1.) Use of standards and non-standard methods for evaluating and interpreting a wide variety of patient physical functional levels and providing progressive treatment. 2.) Independently developing and implementing a physical therapy treatment program using judgment to modify treatment for changing medical conditions or because of a variety of severe physical disabilities. 3.) Implementing treatment plans which directly affect the patient's social, economic, and functional well being. 4.) Effectively communicating, both orally and in writing. 5.) Working effectively with treatment team members and other health care providers in coordinating the patient's total care. 6.) Supervising the clinical training experiences of technical and professional level physical therapy interns to fulfill educational and professional requirements (where training programs exist). (D) Physical Therapists appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English. (E) LICENSURE: Applicants must have a current, full, active and unrestricted licensure as a physical therapist in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the U.S. or the District of Columbia. (F) PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: Applicants for this position must pass a pre-employment medical examination.
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications (particularly positions with a positive education requirement.) Therefore, applicants must report only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.
