The Albany, VA Medical Center, Albany, NY is seeking a full time physician who is board certified in General Surgery or General Surgery with sub-specialty training and has a strong demonstrated track record of surgical experience and academic qualifications. The candidate should have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and proven clinical excellence with the ability to promote surgical staff excellence. Service Chief's responsibilities include all supervisory, administrative and programmatic oversight for VA Medical Center's Surgical Service, which includes Orthopedics, Vascular, Thoracic, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology, GYN, General Surgery, Podiatry, and Plastics.  The Albany VAMC is an active teaching hospital affiliated with and physically adjacent to the AlbanyMedicalCollege, Albany, New York.  The selected candidate must be eligible for a faculty appointment commensurate with experience at AlbanyMedicalCollege.  Research opportunities are also available.

About Albany VA Medical Center
The Stratton VA Medical Center opened in 1951 and serves veterans in 22 counties of upstate New York, western Massachusetts and Vermont.

Primary Care
The primary care program provides services at this facility as well as in 11 community-based outpatient clinics.

Specialized Services
The Stratton VA Medical Center provides specialized medical services such as: cardiac catheterization, cardiac rehabilitation, nuclear medicine, radiation oncology, stereotactic radiosurgery, hospice/palliative care, adult day health care, post-traumatic stress disorder, compensated work therapy, memory clinic, geriatric assessment, nursing home and respite care.

Services for Women
We offer a Women Veterans Health Program that addresses a variety of health care needs specific to women veterans. Services include gynecology, bone density screening and on-site mammography.

Lab and Radiology
There is also extensive diagnostic laboratory medicine and radiology including computerized tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging.

Recognition
The American College of Surgeons designated the Stratton VA as a Comprehensive Cancer Center.
