Elmhurst Memorial Hospital is located in Elmhurst, Illinois, a suburb located 23 miles west of downtown Chicago and 5 miles south of O'Hare International Airport.

Founded in 1926 as the first hospital in DuPage County, Elmhurst Memorial Hospital strives to enhance the health of the communities and customers we serve. With 427 licensed beds, Elmhurst Memorial Hospital and its staff of more than 3,200 employees and nearly 700 physicians are committed to excellence in medical and surgical care, cardiology, oncology, orthopedics, pediatrics, maternity, psychiatric, and emergency care. In August 2004, Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare announced a bold plan to transform inpatient care. Just as Elmhurst Memorial Hospital provided the best in medical care when it opened in 1926, a new hospital campus will offer the best care for today’s patients and for future generations to come. And, just as it took visionaries to imagine the first hospital being constructed in the western suburbs, this special project will be built on strong leadership and extraordinary commitment. This vision is not an intangible. The possibilities can be seen in action every day at the Elmhurst Memorial Center for Health, built in 1999 at York and Roosevelt Roads. The Center for Health serves as an example of how EMHC transformed the delivery of outpatient services for the benefit of the community. The concept for a new, integrated healthcare campus adjacent to the Center for Health offers the opportunity to transform inpatient care.

HealthGrades recently ranked Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare among the top 5% of hospitals in the nation for clinical excellence. For its fourth annual Hospital Quality and Clinical Excellence study, HealthGrades independently analyzed 39 million hospitalization records from 2002 to 2004 at all 5,122 of the nation’s nonfederal hospitals. The study looked at 26 procedures and diagnoses, ranging from bypass surgery to hip-replacement surgery, and required hospitals to meet minimum thresholds in terms of patient volumes, quality ratings and range of services provided. Hospitals that scored in the top 5 percent or better nationally, which demonstrate superior overall clinical performance, were recognized as Distinguished Hospitals for Clinical Excellence.

  • 5,122 The number of hospitals in the U.S. that were independently analyzed by HealthGrades.
  • 277 The number of hospitals ranked in the top 5 percent nationally — including Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare.
  • 21 The number of hospitals ranked in the top 5 percent in Illinois — including Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare.

In March 2003, Elmhurst ranked at the top of the list in the results of the Chicago Magazine survey of 192 Chicago suburbs. They tracked crime rates, school scores, recreational amenities, library holdings, house appreciation, and other variables, and then ranked those communities based on the results.
