Texas Regional Medical Center
(STRMC), a 67-bed, full service community hospital, is located 35 south of San Antonio in the fast-growing town of Jourdanton, TX. STRMC, an attractive, patient-centered facility with an attached medical office building, opened in 2001 and underwent more than $6 million worth of enhancements in 2006. With more than 300 trained professionals and a skilled medical staff, STRMC serves as Atascosa County’s only provider of comprehensive inpatient and outpatient healthcare services.
STRMC offers a 24-hour, Level IV Trauma emergency department, home health agency, intensive care unit, maternal and newborn center, medical/surgical unit, cardiac catheterization lab, sleep disorder center, Senior Circle and Healthy Woman program. Clinical services include a Heart and Lung Center, diagnostic imaging, laboratory, rehabilitation, sleep center, surgery, wound care and hyperbarics. STRMC is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and is certified by the American Heart Association as a “Get With The Guidelines” hospital.
Jourdanton, with it's companion community of Pleasanton, is home to almost 14,000. While only 35 minutes from historic San Antonio, Jourdanton residents enjoy the friendly atmosphere and slower pace of a small town, with gently rolling hills, large live oak and mesquite trees, cattle ranches, and farms that have been in local families for generations. Known as the "Birthplace of the Cowboy," this is a land with a rich heritage in cattle ranching, farming, hunting, and small business ventures. The community enjoys a low cost of living and a crime rate well below the national average. Jourdanton is home to three properties on the National Register of Historical Places and 17 official state historical markers. During the spring, fall, and winter seasons, the weather is mild, with temperatures ranging from 30 to 90 degrees. The populations of both Jourdanton and Pleasanton increased an estimated 13% from 2000 to 2005.
RECREATION
The community has an 18-hole golf course lined with large live oak trees, a four-screen movie theater, and weekend steer ropings. Hunting abounds, and there are city parks and pavilions with sports facilities, swimming pools, and a multitude of churches and restaurants. The area is also home to many active civic groups. The community is only one hour to shopping in the beautiful hill country and two hours to the Gulf of Mexico beaches. The Longhorn Museum, in nearby Pleasanton, is rich with local history, cowboy heritage, a safari, and local hunting trophy mounts. The area also features a theater performance group, and annual art shows. The area boasts several annual festivals and fairs. These include the Atascosa County Fair, Jourdanton American Pride Day, Pleasanton Cowboy Homecoming, Poteet Strawberry Festival, Christmas Lighting of the Courthouse, Christmas Along the Corridor.
EDUCATION
Coastal Bend College (CBC) is a 2-year college located in Pleasanton. CBC nursing school students complete their clinical rotations at STRMC.
