Pediatrician

Peoples Community Health Clinic is looking for a Full-time Pediatrician to diagnose illnesses, prescribe and administer treatment for injury and disease to medically underserved and indigent population. The Clinic is located in Black Hawk County which is designated as a health professional shortage area which allows the candidate the opportunity to apply for federal or state loan repayment grants. The position qualifies for J-1 Visa waiver program.

Peoples Clinic has 2 Family Practice, 4 Internal Medicine, and 5 Pediatric physicians. There are twelve Nurse Practitioners, 1 Physician Assistant staff. There are also 4 General Dentists and 2 Dental Hygienists.

Call coverage is split between adult and pediatric services. Call coverage is shared with other local providers. This position will all share hospital coverage with the other Pediatric staff. There are two major hospitals located in the area. The salary is commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include vacation, health and dental insurance, 401K plan, sick pay, and STD/LTD, and CME allowance.

About Us

Peoples Community Health Clinic, Inc., (PCHC) is a private, non-profit, Federally Qualified Health Center providing primary health and dental care to over 15,100 active patients in the Cedar Valley area of Iowa, especially the medically underserved, through a quality, primary care system.

PCHC was first organized as a free, walk-in clinic in 1976. In 1978 the clinic received an urban health initiative grant. The project grew from two part-time physicians and one nurse, housed on the fifth floor of a renovated convent, to a mid-sized community health center. Currently Peoples Clinic is a 44, 000 square foot facility located at 905 Franklin Street in Waterloo. It's been at this current location since 1999.

It has a satellite clinic in Butler County. The main care clinic located at 905 Franklin St. also offers an 8 chair dental clinic and urgent care service. Peoples clinic has a total of 44 exam rooms, on site x-ray, lab and pharmacy services, full-time interpretive services, homeless outreach and social work/behavioral health services.

 

Community, Facility and Organization

People's Community Health Clinic is located in one of Iowa's larger metropolitan areas with over 130,000 residents. Located 60 minutes from the University of Iowa Clinics and Hospitals, 2 hours from Rochester Minnesota and Mayo Hospital, 2 hours from Des Moines and 4 hours from Chicago.

Waterloo and Cedar Falls are continuous cities located on the banks of the Cedar River in Northeast Iowa and make up the Cedar Valley. Waterloo has a diverse population. Its major industries, including John Deere andTyson foods, are agriculturally related. Cedar Falls, the "twin city," is home to the University of Northern Iowa.

The two cities offer a variety of high-quality attractions, museums, visual and performing arts; festivals, and events; and many different shopping and dining options. The University of Northern Iowa has an active performing arts center and symphony hall. The University also boasts a domed athletic complex for Division I and II collegiate sports. The area supports two community theatres, a renowned regional museum, and an arts and recreation facility.

Parks, tennis, golf, minor league hockey, baseball, fishing, hiking and camping are available recreational pursuits. The areas has developed an extensive network of bike trails and a "chain of lakes" offering extensive water recreational opportunities.

The diversity of the population is reflected in the number of religious facilities. Most Christian faiths are represented. Waterloo also has a synagogue and a mosque.

The University of Northern Iowa is located in Cedar Falls. Hawkeye Community College and an extenstion branch of Upper Iowa University are also located in Waterloo. Wartburg College is located in Waverly. Within the metropolitan area are public and private primary and secondary schools that are rated among the best in the state.

Already famous for being one of the State's foremost historic towns, Waterloo is introducing a number of redevelopment projects. Major among them is the River Renaissance development that will add a river walk, amphitheater, and art mall to its cultural attractions. Another new feature is Tech Works, which will host an agricultural tourism exhibition center, manufacturing mall, technology center, and a bio-product merchandise mart. These two new facilities will anchor an already thriving downtown that offers a variety of dining opportunities along with unique retail shopping. The largest employers in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls: John Deere, Covenant Medical Center, Tyson Fresh Meats, the University of Northern Iowa, Allen Hospital, Waterloo Community Schools.
 
Covenant Medical Center and Allen Memorial are two hospitals located in Waterloo. Covenant Medical Center is a 366-bed, full-service, multi-specialty hospital providing acute, sub-acute and outpatient health care. A full complement of facilities and services are available to support the community's health care needs. Allen Memorial Hospital is a 200+ bed hospital.
