AVERA PULMONARY ASSOCIATES

We are seeking a physician board eligible or board certified in Pulmonology/Critical Care to join Avera Pulmonary Associates. Our group of 4 pulmonologists has a robust inpatient and outpatient practice working from a medical office building attached to the hospital by a skywalk. The ICUs at Avera McKennan Hospital are open units with 33 ICU beds. The hospital also has an 8-bed Pulmonary Acute Care Unit for high-acuity pulmonary patients. The hospital’s 6-bed Sleep Diagnostic Center recently received five-year accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (ASAM). Call is 1:5. The physicians are employed with a base salary, production incentives and a generous benefit package.  There is minimal managed care penetration.

The Pulmonary Clinic moved to a larger clinic space in 2006 into a 7-story medical office building that is also attached to the hospital by a skywalk. A 6-bed Sleep Diagnostic Center is located on the floor above the Pulmonary Clinic. A state-of-the-art Imaging Center will be on the ground floor with X-Ray, CT, MRI, Dexa scans, Mammography, and PET/CT. The building also has a full-service Laboratory, Pharmacy, Deli and valet service. An Internal Medicine Clinic, a Family Practice Clinic, a Rehabilitation Clinic, and a Research Center occupy the other floors of the building.

The physicians may also choose to work some shifts in the eICU, which opened October 2004.  The eICU control room is located on the campus of Avera McKennan Hospital. From the eICU center, Critical Care Physicians trained in Pulmonology, Nephrology or Cardiology monitor and co-manage critical patients being cared for at intensive care units located at ten Avera hospitals in South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska. Avera Health is the 14th health system in the US to implement an eICU to care for the region’s sickest patients.

THE COMMUNITY

Sioux Falls is South Dakota's largest city with a population of 200,000. The city has been judged by Money Magazine as the "best place to live in America" for its quality of life, including low crime rate, high quality education, clean air and water, lack of traffic congestion and friendly residents. Because the state has no personal income tax, no corporate income tax and no business inventory tax, over 3,300 new jobs have been created recently as a result of the influx of new businesses and expansion of existing businesses. With its diversified economy, Sioux Falls has become one of the region's strongest financial centers.

EDUCATION

The city is a great place to raise a family. The public school system offers an array of educational opportunities, with 22 elementary, 5 middle, and 4 high schools. There are also 13 private schools affiliated with various religious organizations. The post-secondary opportunities include five colleges, nearby state universities and a number of business and vocational schools.

RECREATION

Recreational activities abound in Sioux Falls, thanks to the city's system of 80 parks, many of which are based on the Big Sioux River Greenway that provides 20 miles of paved bicycle trails that circle the city. Also a regional sporting hub, Sioux Falls is host to professional teams in basketball, baseball, football, hockey, and soccer. The Avera Sports Institute provides comprehensive sports training, rehabilitation and enhancement programs in a 40,000 square foot year-round athletic training center. The arts are prominent Sioux Falls with the $32 million Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science. The Pavilion features a 1835-seat performing arts center, a domed Omni theater, a hands-on science museum for children, and an expanded display area for the Civic Fine Arts Center. The South Dakota Symphony, Community Concerts Association, Jazz & Blues Society, and numerous touring companies perform in the Pavilion.
