The spectacular 250 miles of coastline—more than in any other county in the U.S. —offer nearly unending recreational opportunities. The waters of Lake Michigan provide opportunities for world-class power boating, sailing and scuba diving. Limestone beaches and natural harbors throughout the county offer exceptional swimming, sailing, and power boating. The county’s five state parks—again more than any county in the U.S. —offer over 100 miles of trails for hiking, biking, skiing or camping. DoorCounty also has more lighthouses—nine—than any other U.S. county, and sailors appreciate the safe anchorage provided by the 40 islands that dot the coastline.
The cultural opportunities in DoorCounty include music, art, and theater. In addition, DoorCounty is home to over 100 studios and galleries featuring many types of arts and crafts. Shopping is available at the numerous specialty shops, galleries, and discount merchandise centers. DoorCounty is served by five public school districts. The public schools provide a full range of special education services, including those for the gifted and talented. In addition to the public schools, there are four parochial grade schools. Higher education is available at the NortheastWisconsinTechnicalCollege in SturgeonBay, offering a wide range of credit and non-credit classes. Green Bay, less than one hour away, has two four-year colleges, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and St. Norbert’s College.
