Mad River Community Hospital

Mad River Community Hospital is an 80-bed, acute care medical facility in Arcata, located on the beautiful coastline of Northern California, 80 miles south of the Oregon border.

Mad River Community Hospital is proud to offer a choice in healthcare in Humboldt County. We are an independent, locally owned and operated hospital. We pride ourselves in providing the best care to our patients by combining advanced technology with a deep commitment to the people we care for and our community.

Arcata is a beautiful place to live and work, nestled between the redwoods and the sea 10 miles north of the city of Eureka.  Home to Humboldt State University, Arcata offers many of the amenities of much larger cities: music, art, educational programs, lectures, cuisine, boutiques, and night life, while retaining our community feel.  College of the Redwoods, a community college, provides further educational opportunities just a few miles south.  Our local schools are excellent, and housing in the area is very affordable, with more Victorian architecture than perhaps anywhere else on the West Coast. The County is an artistic haven, with the second highest number of artists per capita in the state of California.

Outdoor recreation enthusiasts flock to Humboldt County, which offers outstanding opportunities for beachcombing, surfing, river rafting, kayaking, hiking, camping, sailing, fishing, cycling, rock climbing, hunting and more! Humboldt County contains more than 100 miles of pristine coastline, hundreds of thousands of acres of redwood trees, and several wild rivers. The area also boasts picturesque seaports, open farmland, and historical areas. The County is home to ten State Parks and some of the most diverse natural resources on the West Coast. The County is also home to the Redwood National and State Parks, which have been designated as a United Nations Biosphere Region and World Heritage Site. The World Wildlife Fund has identified the County as part of one of the most diverse eco-regions left on the planet and added it to its Global 200 List.
