When Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital opened its doors on July 1, 1931, healthcare in Ravalli County changed forever.
Margaret Daly built the hospital in memory of her late husband, copper king Marcus Daly, who was a founding developer of the city of Hamilton and passed away in 1900. Margaret's visionary philanthropy ensured that thousands of Ravalli County residents and guests would receive excellent, close-to- home care in their times of need.
The original hospital, located on South Fourth Street, was purchased by Ravalli County and remodeled for county offices. The three-story brick building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally, the hospital had seven physicians on staff, along with 16 registered nurses and 12 nurses' aides. The first births at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital were three babies born on July 3, 1931 and were honorably named Daly, Marcus, and Margaret.
The present hospital on Westwood Drive was built in 1975 and continues to bear the name Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital. The facility opened with 48 acute care beds, and 14 physicians. Today Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital is a rural critical access hospital with 24 acute care beds and over 60 providers on the medical staff. Within miles there are an array of outpatient medical services, multiple surgical specialties, and medical clinics on the hospital campus and throughout Ravalli County. Over the past decade significant additions and renovations including birthing, rehabilitation, emergency and hospice centers, an intensive care unit and coming soon a new, state-of-the art surgical center. MDMH Clinics are also open in Darby, Corvallis and Victor and contribute to the extensive network of inpatient and outpatient services for Ravalli County residents and guests.

MDMH is a rural, nonprofit, community hospital. It is governed by a community volunteer board of directors. It does not receive tax income. Reimbursements from Medicare and Medicaid cover only part of the actual costs of care. Despite these challenges, MDMH's priority is to provide quality care close to homeMontana
