Salem Memorial District Hospital (SMDH) is a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital located in Salem, Missouri.
SMDH has served Salem and the surrounding community for over 40 years. A wide variety of healthcare services are offered at SMDH including a 24-hour emergency department providing available physician care to many tourists and residents in and around the area. Our ambulances are fully equipped and ready to respond when paramedics are summoned. All paramedics are BLS, NRP, PHTLS, ACLS and PALS certified. Air ambulance service is located on the hospital campus to assist in transporting patients to St. Louis, Columbia or Springfield within a short period of time. Other services include All-Digital Radiology, Mobile MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Cardiac Diagnostic Services, CT-Scanning, an advanced Laboratory (with 95% of all testing done in-house), an accredited and approved Renal Dialysis unit for outpatient treatment, and an 18-bed Long Term Care facility.
We are a financially sound facility and proud to provide excellent patient care close to home for our community. Our Board of Directors and Hospital Management are committed to providing current and up-to-date technology and equipment, as well as well-trained nurses and ancillary staff.
SMDH is located in the “Heart of the Ozarks” surrounded by the Mark Twain National Forest and Ozark National Scenic Riverways. The Mark Twain National Forest encompasses approximately 1.5 million acres in southern Missouri and northern Arkansas. This diverse topography allows many recreational opportunities. The forest provides hiking, hunting, mountain biking or horseback riding. The Ozark National Scenic Riverways was established in 1964, making it America's first national park area to protect a wild river system. The park stretches for 134 miles along the Current River and Jack’s Fork River to make up the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. The headwaters for the pristine Current River, is located in beautiful Montauk State Park, only minutes away from Salem with some of the most beautiful scenic areas to experience fishing, camping, canoeing, hiking or listening to the sounds of nature.
