Olean, NY, is located 70 miles south of Buffalo. A beautiful community, Olean possesses most of the amenities of of a large city, with the exception of international air travel (1 hour 20 minutes away). Our community's population is about 40,000 and we service an area of more than 160,000. Olean is home to St. Bonaventure University, Jamestown Community College, Cutco, Siemens (Dresser Industries) and several smaller industries. Western NY and the Buffalo area is on the cutting edge for growth! This is a great area to practice and raise a family!
We have a symphony here, along with three theater groups, coral groups, and a fine arts center with fantastic rotating exhibits. The University also provides us with Division I sports and for those of us who do not ski or snowboard, we are Bonnie basketball fans in the winter in a 5000-seat arena on campus.
There is indoor ice skating 7 months out of the year, a 5.5 mile walking/running, biking trail right in the city, a private gym with 24 hour access, a new YMCA with an entire floor of nautilus, great golf courses, plenty of baseball and softball, soccer, football, tennis, and a new kayak company!
We are close enough to Buffalo to be able to enjoy the Bills, the Sabres, and the Bisons - and large retail shopping. Cleveland and Toronto are three hours; Pittsburgh is three and half hours and NYC is five and half hours by car, 1 hour by plane.
The Olean area schools are very good and there are 4 from which to choose, including a private IBS. Housing is very affordable and it is a safe community. There is an abundance of year round activities for young and old alike. The Finger Lakes are just an hour to the east and Holiday Valley Ski/Golf Resort is only a half hour drive to the west.
The Olean Medical Group, which was established in 1948, is a multi-specialty group, currently made up of 37 health care providers and employing almost two hundred. It is located at 535 Main Street in Olean, with three satellite offices for primary care in the nearby towns of Ellicottville, Cuba, and Franklinville. The main office of the Group is located in a relatively new two-story building, right next to our 186-bed hospital, the Olean General. The walk from our front door to the doctor’s entrance is about 140 feet. Our patient draw is about 160,000 and we work Mondays through Fridays, from 8 am until 5 pm. The Group is a one stop healthcare center for the most part, with a Lab and a Radiology Department (all digital) on site – everything except PET and MRI, which are at the hospital.
The Group has been fully integrated in EMR for over 6 ½ years and we are able to interface with the hospital quite easily and through HealthyLink, we can view our patients’ records if they need to go to Buffalo or Rochester. <!--?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?-->
Olean General Hospital, the Dialysis Center, and Wound Care Clinic all sit on the same campus as Olean Medical Group. Our state of the art ambulatory surgical center is just 5 years old and is located across the street. There is a Roswell-affiliated radiation treatment center about one half mile from the Group and an independent Open MRI nearby.
This is a HPSA designated area and the Olean Medical Group has just been approved for Level 3 PCMH.
