Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic (WPIC) is the behavioral health division of the UPMC health system. It is an integrated behavioral health system comprising clinical services, education and training, and research. Together with the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, we provide behavioral health care that is informed by the latest research, for individuals across the life span, who are at all stages in their recovery.
Psychiatric services are provided by over 210 psychiatrists and psychologists at fourteen UPMC hospitals with a total of 434 inpatient psychiatry beds, consultation services, and over 85 ambulatory programs. WPIC also operates the only psychiatric emergency center in the region. For FY17, there were 6,467 admissions to WPIC’s main hospital and 375,479 ambulatory site visits. WPIC also has over $80 million in research funding.
A leader in the treatment of mental health and addictive disorders. UPMC is consistently ranked among the nation’s top hospitals for psychiatry by U.S. News & World Report.
