The Brattleboro Retreat is a 120-bed, private, not-for-profit, specialty psychiatric and addiction hospital offering comprehensive treatment services designed to meet the needs of children, adolescents, and adults who come from all walks of life.
The Retreat offers a broad continuum of care including seven distinct inpatient programs along with a variety of ambulatory services such as partial hospital (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), traditional psychotherapy, and residential services for children and adolescents.
Situated on our historic campus in beautiful southeastern Vermont, the Retreat provides easy access to the major metropolitan areas of the northeast.
We are known in the field for our innovative programming, our use of evidence-based practices, and our commitment to meeting the mental health and addiction needs of distinct patient groups.
Examples include our Adult LGBT inpatient program, our Emerging Adult inpatient program for people age 18—24, and our Uniformed Service Program, which offers IOP and PHP tracks designed for police, firefighters, veterans, and first responders.
The Brattleboro Retreat is a site for social work, medical student, and nurse practitioner training. We have a nurse residency program, a doctoral clinical psychology internship program accredited by the American Psychological Association.
The electronic medical record (EMR) used by Retreat physicians and other direct care providers is Netsmart. Our talented Informatics staff provides comprehensive EMR training and our IT department is available 24/7 to provide service and support. We utilize telepsychiatry in may of our clinical services.
The Retreat has an energetic leadership team and an engaged and collegial medical staff. We strive to ensure low patient loads for each provider (approximately 8 patients daily). This allows our physicians to provide thoughtful and thorough care while maintaining excellent work/life balance.
Physician compensation at the Retreat is competitive and includes a stipend for CMEs. We also offer on- site, interdisciplinary and medical-staff-specific educational seminars along with a robust annual schedule of on-site continuing education conferences at no cost to Retreat employees.
Retreat employees with young children benefit from our highly regarded on-site, independent early learning center serving children from ages 8 weeks to five years.
The Brattleboro community and surrounding area is a wonderful place for young families as well as people who are more established in their careers. We value experience as well as opportunities to mentor talented early career psychiatrists
