Jersey Shore University Medical Center is a member of University Health System, a consortium of major teaching hospitals in the state of New Jersey and, as a major affiliate of the UMDNJ (Robert Wood Johnson Medical school), designated as a major “core” teaching hospital.

This 502-bed acute care hospital is a Level II Trauma Center and PediatricTraumaCenter, which sees 70,000 patients annually. There are 78hrs/day of physician coverage plus 16 hrs/day of Pediatric emergency medicine coverage & 10 hrs/day of Physician Assistant coverage.

JSUMC recently underwent a $300 million expansion and renovation project, which included a new state-of-the-art ED and trauma center. The new 2,130,000 square foot ED opened in August 2009 and is able to accommodate 100,000 annual visits, with dedicated space for pediatrics and imaging.
