Acadian Medical Center, a campus of Mercy Regional Medical Center, is a combined 109-bed acute care, facility in Eunice, Louisiana that provide medical services to the people of St. Landry and Evangeline parishes as well as the surrounding areas. This newly built facility is located right next to the 40,000 square foot Physicians’ Plaza. A healthcare leader in the community, the hospital offers a host of services including: inpatient, outpatient and emergency services including surgery; imaging services such as MRI, CT and nuclear medicine; cardiology, women’s services with obstetrics at the Eunice campus; and cardiac rehab, physical therapy and other rehabilitation services. Medical staff specialties include internal medicine, family practice, pediatrics, orthopedics, ENT, urology, radiology, ophthalmology, interventional cardiology, and general surgery.
Acadian Medical Center is fully accredited by The Joint Commission and earned Chest Pain Accreditation from the Society for Cardiovascular Patient Care, the accrediting arm of the American College of Cardiology.
Eunice is a community well known for its Cajun heritage and tradition. New to the city is the Experience Louisiana Festival, which showcases the heritage and culture of the area through lots of good food and music. Eunice is also known for its annual Crawfish Etouffee cook-off and its traditional Courir de Mardi Gras held during Mardi Gras each year.
Eunice is proud to be home to the Jean Lafitte Prairie Acadian Cultural Center, which features exhibits, indoor displays and hands-on crafts. The Liberty Center for the Performing Arts, also located in Eunice, is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and has been included in the Great American Move Theatres Preservation Press Guide published by the Smithsonian.
In Eunice, education is a priority, starting with the Eunice Public School District that offers four elementary schools and a junior and senior high school. Residents can also choose a private Catholic school, offering grades Pre-K through 12. But education doesn’t stop there. Eunice is also home to a branch of the Louisiana State University system with Louisiana State University at Eunice featuring an array of two-year degree offerings, and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is located just 40 miles away.
The Atchafalya Basin is one of the great ecological wonders of the United States. The basin, which abounds in all types of wildlife, extends from north of Morgan City to past Lafayette. It is comprised of a maze of bayous, lakes, ponds and cypress swamps. Avid birders and photographers may spot more than 300 known species of birds. The area is also home to Chicot State Park, which features nearly 6,000 acres of rolling woodlands, surrounded by a 2,000 acre lake. Families can enjoy fishing, swimming, boating, camping, hiking and more. The town of Eunice has six tennis courts, a newly developed recreational center for baseball and softball, a walking park, country club with a nine-hole course and city lake.
