Aiken Regional Medical Centers, located in Aiken, South Carolina, first opened its doors in 1917 as the Aiken Hospital and Relief Society. The Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence developed the rankings by analyzing data collected by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. The data measured the number of patients who received all appropriate care for the condition that caused them to go to the hospital.
Aiken Regional Medical Centers was the number one hospital in South Carolina in measures for heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia and scored well above the national average. South Carolina hospitals, as a group, scored at or above the national average in the areas that were measured. Aiken Regional also continually ranks among the Top 10 percent of hospitals nationally for many quality measures.
