For the 3rd year in a row, Aspirus has been named by IBM Watson Health as one of the Nation’s Top 15 Health Systems, based on analysis of overall organizational performance and quality. We are a system of 10 hospitals and more than 50 clinics that spans over 25,000 square miles throughout Central Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Currently, over 500 providers are located throughout the system and have the opportunity to affect approximately 770,000 lives.
Aspirus Ironwood Hospital & Clinics, Inc. consists of a 25 bed critical access hospital, multi-specialty clinic, satellite clinic in Wisconsin, surgical clinic, emergency room walk-in clinic. Ranked among the top 20 Critical Access Hospitals in the nation by the National Rural Health Association, Aspirus Ironwood’s service area covers approximately 30,000 people. The hospital has a 4 bed ICU, 3 bed OB unit, and 4 surgical units. The emergency department is staffed 24/7 with ER physicians who see approximately 12,000 patients annually. The hospital's inpatient census is 10 patients per day. The outpatient clinic has over 50,000 visits annually.
The medical staff includes Family Practitioners, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, OB/GYN, Oncology, Radiology, weekend Hospitalist, Pathology, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, and supporting Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners. Consulting and courtesy medical staff includes Cardiology, Pulmonology, Urology, and ENT.
Ironwood, Michigan is located on the far western end of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in Gogebic County. Ironwood is approximately 15 miles from the shores of Lake Superior. The population of Gogebic County is approximately 17,000.
While the community is rural, Ironwood has a local airport that keeps us connected to other major airports. Near by cities include: Duluth, MN 110 miles east, Minneapolis, MN 240 miles southwest, Wausau, WI 120 miles south, and Madison, WI 250 miles south.
The area is the perfect area for the outdoor enthusiast. Outdoor activities are enjoyed throughout all four seasons. Hiking can be enjoyed at any of the numerous parks, including the Black River National Forest byway/waterfalls, the World famous Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park or the Apostle Island National Park. The area offers an abundance of fishing, hunting, camping, biking, alpine and nordic skiing, snowmobiling, canoeing/kayaking, and golfing. The area has 4 local public school systems and a parochial school where the students benefit from a low student/teacher ratio. Gogebic County is also home to the Gogebic Community College.
