Community

The city of Stevens Point (population 26,600) has a cosmopolitan flavor with Sentry Insurance's International headquarters and the campus of the University of Wisconsin-- Stevens Point (9,000 students). The city is nestled in a lovely area on the banks of the Wisconsin River and surrounded by many city and county parks and recreation areas. The historically-minded people of Stevens Point have kept the old world charm of their downtown, where storefronts and the old village square beckon visitor and resident alike with artistry of Polish heritage and seasonal produce from local farmers' fields.

Summertime festivities include Wednesday evening band concerts at the riverfront band shell and a "Riverfront Rendezvous" celebration on the 4th of July weekend, complete with food tents, numerous bands, and a glorious display of fireworks.

Year-round walking and jogging enthusiasts enjoy the nature trail along the river as well as the "Green Circle" that invites bikers to explore the outer regions of the city, through woods, along lakes and rustic roadsides.

A paradise for fishermen and swimmers, boaters, hikers, golfers, birdwatchers, and lovers of nature, Stevens Point is a healthy place to live. The College of Natural Resources at the University has been a major force in fostering a community lifestyle of conservation and the development of natural recreational areas while the University's wellness program has encouraged the development of activity programs that foster better health. The world-class golf course at Sentry Insurance and their health enhancement facility for indoor tennis offer more evidence that this is a health-conscious community.
