ChesPenn Health Services, Inc. Logo Coatesville, located about 40 miles west of Philadelphia, is the only city in Chester County.  Originally established in the late 18th century by the prosperous farmer Moses Coates, the city developed as a 'Pittsburgh of the East,' relying on heavy steel production, most notably by Lukens Steel Company, a business that is well known for its production of steel beams for the World Trade Center in 1969.
