ABOUT THE AREA

Maryland’s Eastern Shore is home to spectacular sunsets, world-class seafood and produce. Our community provides a relaxed coastal lifestyle, away from the busyness of large cities but still close enough to visit major metropolitan areas such as Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia within a few hours. The Eastern Shore is rich with wild areas and outdoor activities in all directions- most famously the Assateague Island Nations Seashore, home to many migratory birds, plants and wild ponies! The resort town of Ocean City, with its famous three-mile boardwalk, is just 30 miles east. This family-friendly destination is a favorite of locals and visitors alike and features miles of pristine beaches, restaurants serving fresh-caught local seafood and other favorites, a wide variety of shops, and theme park rides. Raise your kids in a strong community setting with the beach in easy reach! Other popular destinations in northern Worcester County include Berlin, a quaint community with a historic  downtown commercial district and nearly four dozen buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and Snow Hill, the county seat.

Local Salisbury University offers 42 distinct undergraduate and 14 graduate degree programs across five academic schools: the Fulton School of Liberal Arts, Perdue School of Business, Henson School of Science and Technology, Seidel School of Education & Professional Studies, and the College of Health and Humans Services.

The area boasts plenty of activities for the whole family; outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy golfing, biking, and hiking. Kids love the Salisbury Zoo – a free attraction featuring species from North, Central, and South America. The Downtown Arts & Entertainment District is the city’s cultural hub, home to art galleries, museums, and festivals. Be sure to grab a cold one from a local pub; the microbrew scene is exploding! Salisbury’s climate is neither too hot nor too cold; with a score of 7.5 on the Best Places Comfort Index, it’s one of the most pleasant places in Maryland.
