Community: Stroll the streets of downtown Everett and you’ll experience a sense of the city’s historic milltown origins—along with an awareness of the city’s current vitality and a feeling of anticipation for the future. Everett’s transformation from a "milltown" to an urban center in recent years has been a labor of love for local residents, with the early 90s "For Everett" project successfully revitalizing the downtown area and championing new, vital businesses, while encouraging the renovation of historic buildings. Today, downtown Everett boasts the West Coast’s second largest marina, a variety of unique and fascinating shops and restaurants, a performing arts center, village theatre, and live music, comedy and dancing at numerous nightspots. Also the home of Boeing, Naval Station Everett, and the Port of Everett, Everett’s refreshing quality of life is enriched by vibrant neighborhoods, excellent schools, new transportation and education facilities, plus 40 parks and trails, two public golf courses, and access to recreational opportunities like nearby Jetty Island. In addition, Everett’s close proximity to Seattle makes it easy to soak in the Northwest’s strong and vibrant arts and theatre community, proudly showcased in Seattle’s many museums, galleries, and performing-arts companies, including world-class opera, ballet, and symphony groups. For other tastes, Seattle offers professional baseball, football, soccer, and basketball teams; plus the outdoor enthusiast can enjoy numerous recreational activities, including sailing, skiing, kayaking, hiking, biking and more, all within easy access. The surrounding area is graced by exquisite natural beauty (Puget Sound, the San Juan Islands, Cascade Mountains and Mount Rainier). Magazines such as Fortune and Money rate Pacific Northwest communities as the best places to live in America. But, besides a thriving economy and unparalleled natural beauty, what makes the Northwest so great? The answer is as simple as it is complex: our people. Their one mysterious quality, noticed by all who visit: everyone here is so very "nice."
