Jellico Community Hospital
Jellico Community Hospital is located near Interstate 75 just south of the Kentucky state border in the picturesque Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee. Jellico Community Hospital, which has been operated by Adventist Health System since 1974, provides full-service healthcare to residents of Jellico, Tennessee, Williamsburg, Kentucky and the surrounding region.
As a 54-bed center for health and healing, Jellico Community Hospital offers many of the same high technological services associated with larger medical centers. Yet, it is able to maintain the personal touch of a small hometown hospital. As part of the Adventist Health System, the hospital is associated with a tradition of Christian healthcare that began more than a century ago. A staff of 19 physicians and 200 associates team up to provide personalized quality care, including such specialty services as nuclear medicine, ultrasound, laser surgery and CT scans. In addition, the hospital serves the community with a medical clinic, along with various health screenings and health fairs throughout the year. In 1995, the hospital doubled in size with the completion of a 52,000-square-foot construction project. With an enlarged and renovated emergency room and outpatient service area, an expanded surgery area, LDRP beds for maternity patients, new laboratory and radiology areas, chapel, gift shop, waiting areas, admissions, and registration, Jellico Community Hospital is growing to meet the needs of its community. As a key healthcare provider in the region, Jellico Community Hospital has more than 29,000 patient visits a year. Of these, nearly 28,000 are outpatient visits. Approximately 250 babies are born at the hospital each year.
QUIET AND CONVENIENT
This region offers the best of both worlds for people who desire country living but also want to be near some of the conveniences of metropolitan areas. With nearly 2,500 residents, Jellico provides an ideal setting for the family that enjoys a small-town lifestyle. The major industries in the hospital’s service area are light manufacturing, coal mining, timber and tourism. For those who enjoy country living, the beauty of the Appalachian Mountains offers a peaceful rural area to live. Yet, nearby cities such as Lexington and Knoxville offer a wide variety of shopping, cultural activities and events, educational opportunities and other attractions. There’s literally something for everyone--from Shakespeare festivals and thoroughbred horse racing to rafting, canoeing, quilt shows and mountain music. Outdoor recreational activities are plentiful at Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Daniel Boone National Forest, the Big South Fork of the Cumberland Rivers National Park, Norris Dam State Park, Cumberland Falls State Park, Cumberland Gap National Park and other parks within driving distance of Jellico.
A local public elementary school has an enrollment of about 600 students; the high school has more than 400 students. In addition, the Jellico Seventh-day Adventist Church operates an eight-grade elementary school. Nearby Cumberland College, Roane State Community College, the University of Tennessee and Lincoln Memorial University offer a broad variety of higher education opportunities. Jellico Community Hospital helps in the field placement of master’s degree candidates in nursing from the University of Tennessee. It is also affiliated with the registered nurse program at Roane State Community College, and with two area vocational schools for the training of licensed practical nurses.
