Memorial Hospital Chester Logo Two Rural Health Clinic Locations provide primary care services to the Memorial Hospital service area, with offices located in Chester and Steeleville, Illinois. The Chester Clinic location was originally incorporated in 1979 by independent physician owners, eventually expanding with the addition of the Steeleville Family Practice. Both locations are now Rural Health Clinics, joining Memorial Hospital in 2012. The family practice providers of Memorial Hospital are long standing members within the communities they practice medicine and live. In addition, both practice locations have an electronic medical record system fully integrated with the hospital EMR system.

Memorial Hospital is a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital accredited by The Joint Commission. Memorial provides 24-hour physician-directed emergency care, as well as Convenient Care services. Memorial Hospital features all-digital radiographic imaging, including MRI, CT, Mammography, Ultra Sound, Bone Densitometry and Nuclear Medicine. Memorial’s Therapy and Sports Rehab Center features state-of-the-art exercise equipment and a beautiful aquatic rehab pool. Memorial Hospital has a full service CAP accredited laboratory, cardiopulmonary department, sleep lab, and an oncology and infusions center. Outpatient consulting specialties includes, General Surgery, Cardiology, Orthopedics, Podiatry, Oncology/Hematology, Neurology, Urology, Nephrology, Pulmonology, Rheumatology, Vascular, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Allergy, Otolaryngology (ENT), Audiology, Speech and Pain Management. Memorial Hospital is also affiliated with BJC Health System in St. Louis, Missouri.

Chester, Illinois is located on the bluffs of the Mississippi River Valley in southwestern Illinois. The population was 8,500 at the 2010 census. Chester is the county seat of Randolph County and is located 63 miles south of St. Louis, Missouri. One of Chester’s most famous residents is Elzie Segar, creator of Popeye the Sailor Man. Elzie was born in Chester in 1894. Segar based his comic characters on real life residents of Chester. Chester is host to a Popeye museum, statue character trail, and yearly festival as tribute to their famous comic creator and Popeye characters. The Chester area provides a number of state parks and historic sites for residents and visitors to enjoy. The Fort Kaskaskia State Historic Site has a beautiful overlook of the Mississippi River. Across the river from the fort is Kaskaskia Island, the only part of Illinois west of the Mississippi River. Five miles northeast of Chester is the Randolph County State Recreation Area, which has a 65-acre lake for fishing as well as hiking and equestrian trails. South of Chester is the Turkey Bluffs State Fish and Wildlife Area, which has many scenic overlooks and trails to spot turkeys. Part of the Middle Mississippi River National Wildlife Refuge, a division of the Mark Twain National Wildlife Refuge Complex, is located along the Mississippi River at Chester. The city of Chester has two community parks, which provide ball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis courts, hiking trails, picnic areas, and play equipment. Chester’s other recreational opportunities include a skating rink, country club, nine hole golf course, model airplane flying complex, municipal band events, river cruises, and many community festivals throughout the year. Chester Community Unit School District No. 139 consists of two schools; Chester High School and Chester Grade School. The community is also home to two parochial schools, St. John Lutheran School and St. Mary's Catholic School, providing primary school education through grade eight.
