Meritus Health, a private non-profit, is the parent corporation of Meritus Medical Center and Meritus Medical Group. The health system employs more than 3,200 people, operates the only hospital in the county and is the largest healthcare provider in the region.
Meritus Medical Center is a new state of the art, 278 bed acute care, private, non-profit medical center serving the tri-state region, including Western Maryland, Southern Pennsylvania, and Eastern West Virginia. Designated a Level III Trauma Center, the hospital is served by over 300 physicians, who represent more than 30 specialties.
There are currently four centers of excellence within the hospital. One each for Trauma, Joint Replacement, Bariatric Surgery and Cancer. The Stroke Center, while managed by local neurologists, uses telemedicine technology to link with University of Pittsburgh Medical Center to assure immediate access to a board certified neurologist 24/7. Meritus Medical Center is also designated a Cardiac Interventional Center. Meritus Medical Center’s Wound Center is certified by Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society’s accreditation for the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Program and two physicians are hyperbaric board certified.
Meritus Medical Center is co-located with Robinwood Professional Center, a 373,000 square foot medical mall which includes physician practices, imaging suites, laboratory suites, an urgent care center, an ambulatory surgery center, cancer center, rehabilitation suites, pharmacy and many other amenities.
Meritus Medical Group, our for-profit outpatient division, operates a number of business enterprises related to outpatient healthcare: five pharmacies, comprehensive lab service, home medical equipment, 13 physician practices, a corporate health/rehab business, outpatient surgery, diagnostic imaging, and a childcare center with capacity for 200 children. In many of our practices, there are opportunities to mentor medical students, residents, advanced practice nurse students and physician assistants from universities in Maryland and the region.
Private practices, a very important component in our healthcare network here, represent most specialties and subspecialties, and ensure our patients have access to most care they need in their own community. Private practice physicians continue to enter the community bringing new skills and expanding on specialties and sub-specialties already present.
