MURRAY COUNTY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL & CLINIC
As a critical access hospital, Murray County Memorial Hospital & Clinic is a 25 bed facility providing both inpatient and outpatient services. Among the many services offered in-house are Laboratory, Radiology, Stress Tests, PFT s, Sleep Studies, Lung Screens, Pulmonary Rehab, Same Day and Inpatient Surgery. Outreach services include, endoscopy, urology, cardiology, general surgery, orthopedics, OBGYN, ophthalmology, podiatry, pulmonary, nephrology and psychiatry. In 2005, the hospital completed the renovation of the Emergency Room entrance, two surgery suites and nursing station. To be completed by April 2006, the clinic will be renovated with a new entrance, patient rooms, waiting room, physician offices and new outreach clinic area.
Adjacent to the hospital and clinic, Sunrise Terrace provides Congregate Care Senior Housing. Sunrise Terrace features twenty one and two bedroom apartments that provide affordable and comfortable housing for the elderly residents of Slayton.
Slayton is a community of 2000 people located in Southwest Minnesota about 25 miles north of the Iowa State line. Annual community events include Murray County Fair, Community Health Fair, Prairie Day Parade, Miss Slayton Area Pageant, Autumn Boutique and Holiday Festival. Primarily an agriculture based economy, Slayton s two largest employers are the school system and the hospital.
Slayton is home to several beautiful parks with basketball and tennis courts, volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, playground equipment and shelters. On the north edge of Slayton, an 18-hole golf course graces the landscape. Slayton is also home to Slaytona Beach West, a state of the art aquatic center built in July 2000. Slaytona Beach West features numerous slides, zero-depth entry pool area and handi-capped accessibility to the lap pool. Just 8 miles north of Slayton, the 5000-acre Lake Shetek is a popular recreation area in all seasons offering boating, skiing, fishing and hiking.
Slayton has an excellent educational opportunity for all area children. The public school system covers K-6 in 1 elementary school and grades 7-12 in 1 high school. Teacher to student ratio is 1:14. Post secondary education opportunities can be found in Pipestone, MN at Minnesota West Community and Technical College; Southwest State University in Marshall, MN and South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD.
