This community is located in North Central Kansas. A major highway and railway pass through town.

The town is named for a chief civil engineer and surveyor for the railroad, who camped near town in the late 1800’s. The town's first merchant laid out the town in the spring in the lat 1800’s and began selling whiskey and tobacco. The railroad reached town that summer, and growth was rapid, reaching 400 during the next six years.

The community is within driving distance of Great Bend (population of 15K) with all needed amenities.  They have an excellent 3A school system and K-8 Catholic schools.  Additionally, a community college is nearby.  The community is home to six churches, several small businesses and antique shops, and has several active civic organizations.  There are nearby hunting and lake recreational opportunities.  The community also hosts several events throughout the year.  It is also home to a Vineyard and Winery.  The downtown area once had many underground shops: barbershops, tailors, a meat market and a shoemaker, for example. The old tunnels can be opened for group tours.
