Located in Northwest Kansas, this community is the county seat. The gently rolling countryside around the city offers many opportunities for outdoor recreation. The National Wildlife Refuge and the lake make the area famous for its goose hunting and bird watching. The area also offers opportunities for water skiing, golfing, and fishing. The community is home to wonderful schools that provide a large variety of activities and score high on standardized testing. Two colleges are in nearby communities.
The community is the home of a community center that offers concerts and other live entertainment, as well as provides a regional convention facility. Various parades and festivals are held here as well.
The community has a diverse economy. In addition to the strong agricultural base, there is manufacturing, including roofing materials and farm vehicles. The railroad, which connects the area to the transcontinental lines, is also headquartered here.
