Open Door Health Services Logo

Open Door Health Services is a not-for-profit, Federally Qualified Health Center that acts as the safety net for the uninsured and underinsured of East Central Indiana.

As a community health center, Open Door Health Services helps save the national health care system between $9.9 and $17.6 billion each year just by providing preventive care and cutting down on unnecessary emergency room visits.

The mission of Open Door Health Services
is to improve the quality of life of our patients by providing affordable health care services.

The vision of Open Door Health Services
is to be involved in communities where individuals experience optimal health:

We believe this can be accomplished through:

  • Direct delivery of quality care in geographic locations where it is most needed
  • Availability of affordable healthcare options including preventive care
  • Availability of a full spectrum of healthcare services
  • Meaningful collaborations with organizations who can help reach this goal

The values statement for Open Door Health Services is as follows:

Open Door Health Services is committed to achieving the highest attainable level of physical, behavioral and social well-being for all of our patients and employees through the demonstration of the following core values:

  • Compassion
  • Accountability
  • Respect
  • Excellence

Open Door Health Services has been in the Muncie community since 1974, although we have been known by several different names, including Open Door Health Clinic and Open Door/BMH Health Center.

When the clinic first opened, it was staffed by one nurse and physicians from the residency program at Ball Memorial Hospital. Over the past three decades, Open Door has grown by leaps and bounds. In the last ten years, the growth has become even more pronounced. In 2000, Open Door served 6,272 individuals. In 2010, 17,497 received care at one of eight Open Door locations throughout East Central Indiana. That is a growth of 287% in just ten years.

Unfortunately, though, we are still not providing care to every uninsured or underinsured person in East Central Indiana. In fact, there are approximately 43,690 people who are uninsured or underinsured and eligible for our services living in East Central Indiana without access to affordable health care.
