The Paris Regional Medical Center Wound Care Center®

Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center, managed by Healogics, Inc., provides specialized treatment for chronic or non-healing wounds, which are defined as sores or wounds that have not significantly improved from conventional treatments. Associated with inadequate circulation, poorly functioning veins, and immobility, non-healing wounds lead to lower quality of life and may lead to amputations. When wounds persist, a specialized approach is required for healing.

That’s where our Wound Care Center® can help. With state-of-the-art treatments available including debridement, dressing selection, special shoes, and patient education, people with non-healing and chronic wounds now have a place to turn. The Center uses an interdisciplinary model of care, including infectious-disease management, physical therapy, occupational therapy, laboratory evaluation, nutritional management, pain management, diabetes education, and other areas to address total patient health.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Wounds and Vascular Disease

PRMC has state of the art equipment available for wound treatments with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy also known as HBO. It is an advanced type of care for chronic wounds and vascular (blood vessels) disease.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO), which is a non-invasive procedure where the patient breathes 100 percent oxygen while fully enclosed in a specially designed chamber at increased atmospheric pressure. HBO is used to promote and support healing in the management of conditions in which oxygen transport to the tissues has been disrupted by traumatic injury, infection, inflammation, or edema. This oxygen-rich environment allows the body’s natural wound-healing mechanisms to function more effectively, dramatically speeding up the healing process of chronic wounds.

Benefits from HBO therapy:

  • A increase in oxygen concentration in all body tissues
  • Growth of new blood vessels to locations with decreased circulation
  • Treatment of infection

HBO is the treatment of choice for wounds resulting from:

  • Vascular disorders
  • Diabetes
  • Chronic Bone infections
  • Compromised Grafts/Flaps
  • Radiation injury to soft tissue and other problem wounds
