Centrally located, Portage residents enjoy the best of both worlds--peaceful, small-town living with easy access to several major cities. Four-season recreational opportunities surround this peaceful city. During summer, residents enjoy fishing, golfing, boating on the Wisconsin River, and swimming at Silver Lake Beach. Also, for those outdoor enthusiasts, the Ice Age Trail and the Wisconsin River Levee Walking Trail both offer beautiful scenery. Once the leaves start turning red and gold, thoughts turn to curling, hockey, skiing, tubing, and snowmobiling. Skiers in Portage are lucky to have Cascade Mountain just four miles from town.

The city hosts many cultural events during the year including Performing Arts Series and art exhibits. In addition to an excellent public school system, Portage parents can also choose between one Catholic and one Lutheran school - each offering grades K-8.

Located directly off the I-94, Portage is located just 45 miles north of Madison, 2 hours from Chicago and 2 hours from Milwaukee. Proximity to these larger cities offer easy access to all the amenities these cities have to offer.
