Our community offers the best of rural life within an easy drive to four metropolitan areas.  Family focused with abundant outdoor recreation, this is a safe community with a low crime rate, delightful traditional "home town" atmosphere and an outstanding school system, including a community college. We are a 9,000 person community, but we serve a population of 45,000 rural residents from a 4 county area in South-East Kansas.

This Southeastern Kansas community is friendly. It is named after the chief engineer and general superintendent of a railroad.  It is home to a community college, private elementary schools and public schools.  Three state universities are located within 100 miles.  Cultural and recreational opportunities include a community theater and antique shopping.  The oldest Mexican fiesta celebration in Kansas is held each fall.
