Known for its heavy industry, this Southeast Kansas community boasts a strong economic base. It is a thriving manufacturing community best known for its friendly people, Community College Football and Basketball programs, the demise of the Dalton Gang in 1842, and Amazon.com's largest fulfillment center. The community has numerous recreational opportunities for children as well as two 18-hole golf courses. 

A strong school system from kindergarten through community college is one of the main attractions, as the community boasts the Community Elementary School, a new facility completed in August 2004. It is one of the largest elementary schools in the state. 

Cultural, social and recreational facilities are easily accessible, and sports programs of all types are featured.
