Carson City is a 61 bed rural referral center and teaching hospital affiliated with West Virginia and Michigan State University Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine. This not-for-profit hospital recently completed construction of a 31,000 square foot, 2 stories, new wing that includes a new Surgical Department, Same Day Surgery Department, Laboratory and Sterile Supply unit. Renovation and expansion of the hospital OB Department, Radiology, and Physical Therapy followed completion of the new wing. The current active staff of 38 physicians provides care through primary care clinics in their hometowns and in specialty clinics in Carson City, adjacent to the hospital. The hospital has a full range of diagnostic services, including Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Mammography, Bone Densitometry, Mobile MRI, CT scanner, Echocardiography, EEG and the usual Laboratory testing. The Primary service area of the hospital is over 68,000 people. The ICU/CCU is a 4-bed unit with state of the art color monitors. Average 8 to 10 Swan Gantz procedures a month. There are also 6 step down monitored beds in the ICU/CCU.

Every year, through 38 residency programs established in partnership with Michigan State University’s Colleges of Human and Osteopathic Medicine, the committed clinicians at SHS help train approximately 210 residents. On February 23, 2009 Sparrow and Michigan State University signed a formal affiliation that has improved the region’s health care by increasing research opportunities, attracting sub-specialist physicians and enhancing medical and nursing education. The agreement includes the commitment to develop collaborative efforts to constantly improve the quality of care in the region, achieve national benchmarks in patient care, enhance service and access, establish a joint institutional review board to streamline the review of potential research projects, and an emphasis on attracting new medical research and clinical trials to the region.
Nicotine-Free Hiring Policy
Effective May 1, 2011, Sparrow Health System has a nicotine-free hiring policy. As part of a pre-employment drug screen and physical test, all new Caregivers will be tested for nicotine.
Individuals whose pre-employment physical results are verified positive for tobacco/nicotine use will be disqualified from employment, their job offer will be rescinded, and they will be disqualified from applying for employment for ninety (90) days from the date of the health screening.

Carson City is a rural community located in central Michigan, 45 minutes North and West of Lansing and 60 minutes North and East of Grand Rapids. Advance education is easily available from a number of colleges in close proximity to Carson City. These include: Alma College, Central Michigan University, Montcalm Community College, Michigan State University and Thomas Cooley Law School. Most religious denominations are represented in the area expressed by their various religion worship centers. The economy of the area is strong and stable. Its base consists of agriculture, small manufacturing industry, state facilities and service industries. There are numerous golf courses, hunting, fishing, sailing, boating, gliders, cross country skiing and other outdoor activities are readily available. Close proximity to Lansing affords the availability and the attractions of a larger city. Lansing has several entertainment attractions including the Breslin Center for sporting events and concerts and The Wharton Center for concerts, Broadway shows and other main attractions. The Lugnuts, a professional minor league baseball team, makes its home in Lansing at Oldsmobile Park. For the health conscious, the Michigan Athletic Club (MAC),a division of Sparrow Health System, is available. Three large shopping malls are located in the area and contain such stores as The Gap, Macy's, Pottery Barn, and several others.
