Texas Civil Commitment Center
The passage of SB 746 in June 2015 required the Texas Civil Commitment Office to transform the nation’s only exclusively outpatient sexually violent predator program into a tiered treatment program with inpatient and outpatient components. Prior to the passage, civilly committed sexually violent predators resided in halfway houses throughout the State of Texas. On July 31, 2015, Correct Care was awarded a contract with the Texas Civil Commitment Office for the management and operation of the 382-bed Texas Civil Commitment Center for sexually violent predators, civilly committed pursuant to Texas Health and Safety Code, Chapter 841. The operations agreement between Correct Care and the Texas Civil Commitment Office has an initial term of two years beginning September 1, 2015 with four two-year renewal option periods. In addition, Correct Care was responsible in coordination with the Texas Civil Commitment Office for transporting all residents from the halfway houses throughout the State to the secure treatment facility located in Littlefield, Texas.
Correct Care has a proven track record in providing state-of-the-art treatment programs for sexual offenders including medical, psychological, psychiatric, dental, vocational, recreational, educational and dietary. In addition to these services, Correct Care provides all appropriate personnel with specialized training in the needs of sex offenders and provides group therapy sessions to those who participate voluntarily in such services. Correct Care provides for the control, care and treatment of civilly committed sexually violent predators in a non-punitive setting until such time as a resident’s mental abnormality or personality disorder has so changed that a court determines it is safe for the person to be at large. Correct Care is committed to employing local candidates who are licensed and qualified to treat this unique population and ensures that its staffing patterns are consistent with the facility’s mission.
