The Georgia Cancer Center
Our mission is simple.
At the Georgia Cancer Center, we want to reduce the burden of cancer in the State of Georgia and across the globe through superior care, innovation, and education.
To reach this goal we are taking steps to be a global leader in cancer clinical care, discovery innovation, translational research and professional education and public awareness.
While each clinician, researcher, nurse, administrative assistant, and support staff member took a different path, we all find ourselves committed to the Georgia Cancer Center’s strategy for inspiring collaboration and supporting innovation and achievement.
Because of the major investment in basic science research and clinical care by Augusta University, Augusta University Health and Medical College of Georgia leadership, we have fertile ground to produce the next big advancement in cancer research and clinical care.
Programs & Services
Cancer Immunology, Inflammation & Tolerance
The principal goals of the program are to elucidate molecular pathways and cellular processes active in tumor microenvironments in order to develop, characterize, and apply immunological approaches to prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of premalignant and malignant diseases.
Molecular Oncology & Biomarkers
The overall goals of this program are to understand the fundamental cellular and molecular processes that contribute to cancer development and progression.
Tumor Signaling & Angiogenesis
The unifying theme of this program is to build translational clinical trials based on innovative and novel research projects that focus on signaling cascades leading to uncontrolled cell growth and resistance to apoptosis.
Cancer Prevention & Control
The Cancer Prevention and Control program reaches out to community organizations, schools and other civic groups to promote the importance of detection and regular screening.
Biochemistry & Cancer Biology
The Cancer Center and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology jointly offer the Biochemistry and Cancer Biology PhD program through The Graduate School at Augusta University.
We can provide information that ranges from educational and prevention sessions to special events; from screenings to research updates; from clinical care to survivorship programs - all with the focus on supporting those being affected by a diagnosis of cancer and finding a cure for this disease.
