UMC Health System
For more than 30 years, UMC Health System has pioneered better healthcare in our region. Today, our Centers of Excellence – the UMC Trauma Center, the Timothy J. Harnar Burn Center, the Southwest Cancer Treatment and Research Center, the UMC Children’s Hospital and the UMC Heart Center – are nationally recognized for the quality and sophistication of the specialized care they provide.
UMC is the primary teaching hospital for the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, where today’s leading experts are training the doctors and nurses of tomorrow. Because of this partnership, we deliver technically sophisticated healthcare that ranks alongside the best in the nation. UMC benefits the health, welfare and economy of the entire region. With a commitment to service, UMC’s medical staff and employees have a shared vision of serving our patients in the best teaching hospital in the country.
UMC’s culture demonstrates that service is our passion, and we focus on three main goals: providing high quality healthcare, supporting the TTUHSC, and sustaining financial stability.
Owned by the taxpayers of Lubbock County, UMC is a strong investment. In 2007, taxes as a percentage of UMC’s operating budget were only 4.6% compared to a state average of 26.7% among County Hospitals. In 2006, UMC provided in excess of $52 million in total unreimbursed healthcare and remains totally debt free.
