Lexington is the county seat of Davidson County, North Carolina. As of the 2010 census, the city had a total population of 18,978. Located in central North Carolina, just 20 miles south of Winston-Salem, Lexington is part of the Piedmont Triad region of the state. Lexington, Thomasville, and the rural areas surrounding them are slowly turning into bedroom communities for nearby cities such as Winston-Salem, Greensboro and High Point. Many states have towns named Lexington, but only one claims to be the Barbecue Capital of the World with more than 15 restaurants serve up pork shoulder barbecue and more than half still being cooked over hot wood coals. The town is so proud of its barbecue heritage that each year a huge celebration takes place in October, drawing more than 100,000 visitors and locals to the Main Street of Uptown.
