White Plains Hospital is a 292-bed hospital located less than 25 miles outside of New York City. Following a major facilities transformation in recent years, the Hospital now boasts new state-of-the-art operating suites and cancer center. Construction is also currently underway of a new Center for Advanced Medicine & Surgery, a nine-story, 252,000 sq. ft. ambulatory center scheduled to be opened in 2021.

White Plains, situated just 25 miles north of Manhattan, is one of the top suburban office and retail centers in the nation. White Plains is a corporate and retail hub as well as the Westchester County Seat and home to numerous federal and state government offices and courts.  It offers a comprehensive, efficient, multi-modal public transportation system and is the gateway to both metropolitan and upstate New York, New England, and other major northeast markets.  The city is strategically located less than a one-hour drive from four major metropolitan airports (JFK, LaGuardia, Newark, and Westchester County Airport).  White Plains seamlessly combines the traditional amenities of suburbia with a vibrant urban core.

White Plains is a suburban city with a full accompaniment of urban amenities. A residential community of nearly 57,000, the population soars to approximately 150,000 during the day as workers, shoppers, and visitors arrive by car, rail, bus, and plane. White Plains is Westchester's premier business market and is home to the county's largest concentration of retail activity. With three major malls and a dynamic, revitalized downtown featuring outstanding restaurants, boutiques, arts and cultural destinations, and nightlife, White Plains is thriving.

Downtown White Plains is a business hub, attracting high technology firms, law firms, major corporations, and colleges / universities. In addition, with more than 3,000 units of residential housing built or currently in the approval process in the downtown, this area is a major residential neighborhood as well. White Plains is viewed by residents and visitors alike as one of the most attractive and desirable cities in the state in which to live, work, shop, and play.

White Plains has thriving neighborhoods with well-established identities and a traditional suburban feel that belie their proximity to the downtown urban center.  The City offers numerous parks and recreational facilities and a large variety of recreational programming for pre-schoolers through active older adults.  Its schools are well-regarded and provide top quality education and services to a large and diverse student population.  The White Plains Public Library boasts an outstanding children's library, the Trove, and a dedicated space for teens, the Edge.  The recent and continuing addition of dedicated bike lanes and electric vehicle charging stations as well as the availability of ZipCar, have made White Plains an even more desirable location for families and young professionals alike.


White Plains is a transit hub. The City has two Metro-North stations (White Plains and North White Plains) and can boast a 30 minute express ride into Manhattan from the main White Plains station. The Bus TransCenter is a hub for the County Bee Line Bus System, which provides local bus service to all parts of Westchester, and is also utilized by regional commuter service bus providers. The Westchester County Airport is a short 10 minutes from downtown White Plains. The city is easily accessible to all major highways and parkways in the area - I-287, Bronx River Parkway, Hutchinson River Parkway, I-95, I-684, and the Sprain Brook and Saw Mill Parkways. And let's not forget that White Plains offers both Zipcar and electric vehicle charging stations.

White Plains is the only Westchester municipality that offers its own parking app, ParkWhitePlains. The ParkWhite Plains app is free and offers a quick registration process. It allows parkers to easily and quickly pay for parking without utilizing a meter, manage their parking, and extend their parking time remotely. The app offers a visual countdown timer to help parkers keep track of the time left in their parking session. 

Overnight, on-street parking between the hours of 2:00 a.m. – 6:00 a.m. is not permitted within the City of White Plains. 


The White Plains School District offers very favorable class sizes; Many specialized programs which improve and enrich students' lives, accommodate diverse learners, and distinguish the district; Varied opportunities for children with special needs; Five year sequences in French, Spanish, Italian and Mandarin Chinese starting in middle school and Accelerated German at the High School; A wide range of performing arts opportunities, including band, orchestra and chorus beginning in fourth grade and theater productions beginning in middle school; A state-of-the-art instructional technology program focused on improving student achievement with computer networked schools that offer a computer ratio of about 3:1; A nationally recognized Controlled Parents' Choice Program - a model for school choice - governing the placement of youngsters in grades K-5; One 6th grade campus at Eastview and one 7th and 8th grade campus at Highlands, both of which prepare students to meet the challenges of high school; and much more.

White Plains has 20 beautiful multi-purpose parks and playgrounds, including ball fields, basketball courts, boating, picnic grounds, skating, nature trails, outdoor concerts, historic sites, swimming pools, tennis courts, track and volleyball, as well as innovative programming for all ages and abilities.

The White Plains Performing Arts Center, located at the City Center complex, offers critically acclaimed theater, music, and family programming as well as a resident training program for children and young adults. White Plains is also the home of ArtsWestchester, located at 31 Mamaroneck Avenue, on the corner of Mamaroneck and Martine Avenues. ArtsWestchester is New York State's largest private, not-for-profit arts service organization, working to ensure the availability and accessibility of the arts for all of the county's residents. Their headquarters in downtown White Plains regularly hosts exhibits and live music and performances.
